Steps to Success
From High School to Employment
Step 1: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Step 2: Personal Interview
Acceptance into RAC means that we see potential in your ability to develop the technical and interpersonal skills necessary for work in a salon. Ask yourself: Do I enjoy people? Am I creative? Am I self-motivated? Will I be able to invest time and effort to build a successful career in cosmetology? These are some of the qualities salons look for in hiring.
Step 3: Cosmetology Training
The State of Tennessee requires 1500 hours of cosmetology training in order to graduate. The course can be completed within 12 months for students attending 32.5 hours per week. The course offers professional training in the proper management of a salon as well as actual practice of salon services on clients in the student clinic. The college also offers courses in retail sales. People skills are just as important as technical skills to the cosmetologist’s success. Customer service and interaction is a crucial component of the curriculum.
Step 4: Graduation
A diploma is awarded certifying that all State Board course requirements have been met.
Step 5: Cosmetology License
You must pass the State Board Examination given by the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology to receive a cosmetology license.
